What to expect during an Equine Photoshoot?

I know for many people, being in front of the camera is fairly daunting, I know for me when I have had my photo taken on any occasion, I feel awkward and don’t know how to smile or stand.

But I can promise you, the moment that we start shooting, all of these nerves or worries will disappear.

My main value with my work, is that I want to create natural and honest photos, so on the day, don’t worry about posing or where to stand as we will go with the flow and find nice spots for the photos. I can help direct you on any ways of standing or poses if needed.

Again, as I love a natural shot, I don’t want anything that feels or looks awkward, all I might say is ‘love your horse’, if you are uncomfortable or have any ideas please have a chat with me, I love to make each shoot a collaboration.

At the end of the day, I want you to remember your experience of your photoshoot in a good way so having fun, keeping it informal and having some quality time with your ponies is all I encourage.

We will start the photoshoot by scouting out the areas together, this is your opportunity to show me where we are shooting and anywhere that you think might be a good backdrop. I’ll be picking up on little spots and lighting that catches my eye.

Then we can form a rough plan for your photoshoot.

Here are some areas that we might want to start with: Standing portrait shots, field shots, Walk along a path/the yard driveway and Black backdrop photos in a stable/barn

We may need to start in a specific area due to other horses, time of day, yard rules or your preference due to your horse. I always go with the flow so if you prefer to shoot certain areas/ photos first just let me know.

In the 2 hours we have together we will find nice spots, have a chat and all I want is for you to be having a lovely time with your horse/s, as the end of the day we are here on the photoshoot to capture your bond and create some lovely memories.

We can also plan outfits around the locations, your horse and the season.

I am happy to help you plan any outfits.

You can have up to 2/3 outfit changes during your shoot, so we can always choose on the day.

I always encourage you to wear what you want, whatever you are comfortable in.

If you want to wear riding clothes for action shots, a dress in a field or tweed for a country look, any option is ok. Just please don’t wear things you are not comfortable wearing as this will show in your photos, we want you to be comfortable and confident.

So now we are ready to shoot, I will always make sure we get the right shots, but as soon as we have them, we move on. I know many horses get fidgety and are done after an hour or so, with that in mind I like to move at a pace so we can make sure we get the shots before the horses call it a day.

I will always show you the shots as we go along so you know what to expect and I can be happy I have left with photos that I know you will be happy with.

Don’t be worried about ears forward as we have plenty of tricks to try, but what would always be a benefit is if you bring someone with you to help out, carrying your bag or stand with your horse/s etc. It will make things easier for both of us.

I will always make sure I have a range of photos, so ones of you and your horse, stand alone horse portraits and a mix, so you have plenty to choose from.

We will then have a chat whilst I show you some of the photos and check you are happy, this ends your photoshoot.

I will then get home and upload your images straight away to give you a preview within 1 day of your photoshoot. Within a week I will have your gallery ready for you to view and we can arrange a call to run through if needed.

then allow up to two weeks for your final package to arrive in the post (depending on which package you have chosen)

I hope this all sounds ok to you!

If you’d like to book in your own equine photoshoot, get in touch! I’d love to meet you and your four legged friend.
